Overhead join - Preferred, descending dead side(to the north of the airfield). If the circuit is busy rejoin via the overhead.
Noise abatement - Avoid overflying the village of Kinglassie and the town of Glenrothes. Final for Runway 24 is offset to avoid built up areas. Report final for Runway 24 when 30 degrees to the runway. On climb out from Runway 06 turn right after 300ft AAL.
Parachuting - When a live drop is in progress all aircraft must remain clear of the airfield and engines must be shut down on the ground. When parachuting is active all aircraft must contact Fife Radio to request engine start-up.
Gliding - Portmoak Airfield to the NW of the aerodrome has intense gliding activity most days. Avoid overflying.
High ground - Caution high ground 1512ft AMSL to the NW of the aerodrome
Customs/Border - Fife Airport is unable to accept flights from outside of the UK, please see the UK Government guidance here for more info on where you can arrive or depart the UK. No aircraft has permission to operate from or to Fife Airport on an international flight. Any pilot or operator who operates from Fife in contravention of this will be held fully liable for any charges levied on the airport operator for this breach.
Commercial operations - Commercial operations from Fife Airport are by arrangement only.
Cost sharing flights - Cost sharing flights for based aircraft are by arrangement only. Cost sharing flights by visiting aircraft are strictly prohibited.
An Air Ground Communications Service (AGCS) is provided during operational hours at Fife Airport on the dedicated frequency of 130.455 MHz, callsign “Fife Radio“. Please note that this frequency may not always be manned, and blind calls should be used if there is no response.
PPR is required before flying to Fife and can be obtained by phoning 08000903787 during working hours.
We request you familiarise yourself with the noise abatement procedures before flying in. We have included a map of commonly used reporting points to help visiting pilots. Parachuting can often take place at the airfield, so we have a page on skydiving operations for pilots which we ask you to read.
Runway 06 Circuit
Departing Runway 06, a right turn onto a heading of approximately 120º should be attempted after departure to avoid overflying the housing estate. ‘Base Leg’ is to the west of the village of Kinglassie, which pilots should also avoid overflying. All circuits from Runway 06 are to the south (right-hand).
Runway 24 Circuit
On departure from Runway 24, extend your upwind leg beyond the village of Kinglassie to avoid overflying it. Turn crosswind in order to pass West of Kinglassie. There is an offset final for Runway 24 to avoid overflying the housing estate. From Base, report final when approximately 50º from the runway, and overfly the Golf Course.
Inbound Procedures
It is recommended to establish radio contact with Fife Radio on 130.455 Mhz as early as possible, in event of parachuting operations being active. On initial contact, pass your Callsign, Position and request ‘Airfield Information’. Fife Radio will advise the runway in use, circuit direction, any known traffic likely to effect and advise the next estimated drop time (if parachuting is active). When a drop is in progress, the aerodrome will be closed and no aircraft will be permitted in the circuit. For more information please see the Parachuting Procedures page.
Aircraft parking is on the north part of the main apron in front of the car park, with overspill on the southern engine run-up area. Visiting pilots should not park outside the main hangars unless advised by Airfield Operations.
Outbound Procedures
If the drop-zone is ‘ACTIVE’, all pilots are reminded to request engine start-up to ensuring parachuting is not in progress. The engine run-up area is the southern part of the main apron, between taxiways Bravo and Charlie. If you are unable to perform power checks in this area due to other aircraft, they should be conducted at the holding point prior to departure.
Helicopter Procedures
Helicopter traffic should join the circuit as per fixed-wing aircraft, avoiding overflying the same areas. When on final approach and traffic permitting, helicopters may route to the “H” helipad landing zone next to the parking apron, or to “The Hangars” apron parking area if requiring hangarage. In both instances, the pilot should inform the Air/Ground operator before manoeuvring. In the case of parking for hangarage, this should only be attempted when all hangar doors are shut to avoid damage to aircraft in the hangars.
Helicopters may make use of the grass area running to the south of the runway for training purposes, which is known as the “South Side Grass”. Before doing so, please advise the Air/Ground operator. Sufficient safe room should be kept between the runway and the grass area used by the pilot to ensure fixed-wing aircraft can continue to land and take-off as normal. Pilots must be cautious of the effect of wake turbulence to other aircraft.
